According to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), those four HBCUs produce $1 billion in total economic impact, 9,327 jobs, and $9.5 billion in lifetime earnings. So if you’re looking for a college on the east coast, check out what each Maryland HBCU has to offer. Bowie State University - Bowie, MD Bowie State is the oldest HBCU in Maryland and one of the ten most senior HBCUs. The institution offers 44 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and 14 specialty certificates. In addition, Bowie State’s Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Nursing provide simulation centers, research laboratories, and a greenhouse to expand their students’ learning experiences. Coppin State University - Baltimore, MD Since 1900, Coppin State has helped students “achieve greatness in and out of the classroom” (Coppin State). The institution offers 53 undergraduate degree programs and nine graduate degree programs. In addition, for students interested in aeronautics and aviation, Coppin State offers the NASA Science Activation Program (SaSa), in which eligible students participate in an intensive 8-week internship with hands-on research opportunities. Morgan State University - Baltimore, MD Morgan State is a public HBCU deemed as Maryland’s Preeminent Public Research University. Founded in 1867, the institute is the only HBCU to have its entire campus labeled a National Treasure by the National Trust Historic Preservation. Morgan State offers over 140 undergraduate and graduate programs for prospective students to choose from. University of Maryland Eastern Shore - Princess Anne, MD The University of Maryland of Eastern Shore (UMES) is a 4-year, 1890 land-grant institution. UMES provides its students with “access to a holistic learning environment that fosters multicultural diversity, academic success, and intellectual and social growth” (UMES). The institution provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs in their schools of Education, Social Sciences, and the Arts; Business and Technology; Pharmacy and Health Professionals; Agricultural and Natural Sciences; Pharmacy; and Graduate Studies.
