Huge National Event! in Montgomery THIS Weekend -Honda Battle of the Bands at Alabama State University
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 17, 2023

The countdown begins to this Saturday's (Feb. 18) premier 2023 Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB) at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. It’s the first time that the HBOB will bring the music and excitement to an HBCU campus.

At noon on Saturday, six HBCU marching bands and dance teams will showcase their talents with high-energy performances at The ASU Stadium.

The 2023 lineup is:
• Alabama State University Mighty Marching Hornets
• Langston University Marching Pride
• Morgan State University Magnificent Marching Machine
• Savannah State University Powerhouse of the South
• Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul
• Virginia State University Trojan Explosion
Each team receives an all-expenses-paid trip to the HBOB Invitational Showcase, and each participating HBCU also will receive a $50,000 grant to support its music education programs from Honda.

Celebrity Hosts
This weekend's star-studded ASU affair is being hosted by ASU alumnus and legendary comedian, author, television host and award-winning radio host Rickey Smiley; and Emmy and two-time NAACP Image Award-winning host, actress, author and comedian Loni Love.

Superstar and ASU alumnus 2 Chainz will take the stage for the halftime show, a celebration of the HBCU community and Black-American culture.

Connection Day-ish Precedes the 'Battle'
Current high school juniors and seniors, as well as prospective transfer students, will have an opportunity to take a closer look at ASU during the Spring Connection Day-ish College Fair. The Fair will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. along Harris Way, in front of the ASU Stadium. Parents also are encouraged to attend.

Registered students will receive free tickets to the Honda Battle of the Bands.
