The Thurgood Marshall College Fund Partners with MasterClass to Provide Free Annual Memberships to all HBCU Students

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) today announced a partnership with MasterClass, the streaming platform where anyone can learn from the world’s best across a wide range of subjects, to provide free annual memberships to every student enrolled in a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Through the partnership, students can sign up to receive access to 180+ classes and instructors across arts & entertainment, business, design & style, sports & gaming, writing and more.

With a MasterClass membership, HBCU students will get unprecedented access to classes from notable instructors including Shonda Rhimes teaching writing for television, Nas teaching hip-hop storytelling and Elaine Welteroth teaching designing your career as well as classes that will empower social change such as Black History, Black Freedom, and Black Love. The platform also features notable HBCU alums including Rosalind Brewer and Jelani Cobb and advocates Dr. Cornel West, Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and Nikole Hannah-Jones. The partnership is part of the company’s commitment to amplify diverse voices and inspire a new generation of thought leaders.
Partnering with MasterClass aligns with TMCF’s mission, which ensures student success by promoting educational excellence and preparing the next generation of workforce talent through leadership development, which helps them strengthen their skills that prepare them for success upon graduation.

“TMCF is pleased to partner with MasterClass to enhance the marketability and career readiness of our HBCU students, and alumni, through the MasterClass platform,” said Martinique Thompson Taylor, Vice President of Talent Acquisition and Campus Relations at TMCF. “Having the opportunity to learn tangible skills from world class instructors directly ties to the overall mission of TMCF, as we prepare the next generation of workforce talent. The highlight of the MasterClass platform is its ability to meet our HBCU students where they are with immersive online development.”

“The Thurgood Marshall College Fund has supported higher education and provided opportunities for hundreds of thousands of students,” said David Rogier, founder and CEO of MasterClass.

“Curiosity and growth are at the core of MasterClass and we are excited to partner with TMCF to provide all HBCU students the opportunity to learn new ideas, perspectives and insights outside of the classroom.” To receive a free one year MasterClass membership, currently enrolled HBCU students can sign up by entering their .edu email address through March 1, 2023. Additional terms apply.
