Harris Stowe State University Reach 50K giving Goal for the 2022-2023 Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 28, 2023

In August 2022, Harris-Stowe State University’s (HSSU) Office of Institutional Advancement launched the Annual Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign, aiming for the goal of $50,000. At the Spring 2023 Faculty and Staff Institute, the Office of Institutional Advancement announced the final amount of Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign, which was a little over $47,000. To achieve the set goal, HSSU Attorney Sonette Magnus wrote a check to cover the remaining balance, reaching the desired goal of $50,000!

Jeff Shaw, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, wanted to create an atmosphere of excitement and show the St. Louis community that the faculty and staff are truly invested in its students.

“The people in the community want to know what we are doing for our students,” Shaw said. “We care about our students and want them to succeed.”

Faculty and staff were able to give any amount in any way they could, whether that was up front or in deductible increments. They were also able to give in various areas they wanted to support, such as the Emergency Student Assistance Fund, a general scholarship, an endowment, support to one of the Colleges within the university, buying a brick, or another method to give.

To make it a lighthearted competition, faculty and staff received updates on what department was in the lead for giving the most and what department had the most participation. Donors who gave $1,000 or more received Leadership Donor recognition for their donation, while departments that had 100% participation also received recognition.

“We want to create the kind of energy that says, ‘this is a really good thing to be a part of,’” Shaw said. “We want people to be excited to give; people love to be a part of a success story.”

This campaign sets the tone for next year’s Faculty and Staff Campaign, which will kick off next August at Fall 2023’s Faculty and Staff Institute.

If you or someone you know would like to donate to the students of HSSU, you can go to the Give to HSSU page.
