Nouveau Brings Collective Work to Uplift Atlanta’s Local HBCUs

Nouveau Brings Collective Work to Uplift Atlanta’s Local HBCUs
Posted By: S. Moore on March 07, 2023

Nouveau Restaurant and Bar, located in Jonesboro, Georgia, recently hosted an HBCU scholarship giveaway that was nothing short of epic. The event was a true testament to the power of community and collective action, as owner Ebony Austin and her team, along with community leaders, corporate entrepreneurs, and members of black sororities and fraternities came together to support deserving students from Atlanta’s historically black colleges and universities.

The Nouveau Restaurant and Bar HBCU scholarship giveaway was a high-energy event, hosted by Shenelle Simone and April B of the Media Girls Network. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers and applause erupting from the crowd as Jonesboro High School’s Cardinal Drumline delivered an electrifying performance. Members of several sororities and fraternities took it to the yard as they strolled to the sounds of DJ Zay Weezy & Gip.

Special guests such as Chef Erica of Socu Prime; The first black woman owned steakhouse in Atlanta, Streetz94.5’s Jazzy McBee, and Kia J of Club Kitchen, and many more offered words of wisdom, opportunities, and even a little extra ‘shmoney’ for the recipients. With notable names in attendance, scholarship after scholarship was awarded to deserving recipients.

Community leaders offered words of encouragement from City Councilman of College Park, Tracey Wyatt, and City Manager of Jonesboro, Ricky Clark. City Councilwoman Dr. Donya Sartor challenged the community to continue uplifting and encouraging our communities to continue supporting our local HBCU’s and the education of our future leaders.

For Austin, a graduate of an HBCU herself, supporting black students pursuing higher education is a deeply personal cause.

“Education is the key to unlocking a brighter future, and I am honored to be able to support these students as they pursue their dreams,” she said.

Thanks to the generosity of the Jonesboro community, as well as corporate sponsors and members of black sororities and fraternities, over $30,000 in scholarships was awarded to multiple recipients. The recipients chosen came from diverse backgrounds and had their own stories of academic achievement, leadership potential, and financial need. This scholarship giveaway was a true celebration of their hard work and dedication.

For the recipients, the scholarships represent not only financial support but also a powerful message of encouragement and support from their community. “Knowing that there are people out there who believe in me and want to see me succeed means the world,” said one of the scholarship recipients.

The Nouveau Restaurant and Bar HBCU scholarship giveaway is a shining example of the power of collective action and community support. It’s a reminder that when we come together to support our communities, we can create positive change and make a real difference in the lives of those around us.

Thank you to Nouveau and their team that will continue to sell their infamous stone ground grits in which all proceeds aid HBCU students and assist in furthering their education.

Congratulations to all of the scholarship recipients, and a huge thank you to Nouveau Restaurant and Bar, Socu Prime, the Jonesboro and College Park community, the Jonesboro Band and everyone who came together to make this event a success. We can’t wait to see what amazing things these students will accomplish in the future.
