Posted By: S. Moore on March 08, 2023 On Feb. 23, student journalists from 16 Historically Black College Universities (HBCUs) all over the US were invited by Michael B. Jordan to attend a press conference for his new movie “Creed III” in Atlanta, Georgia. “Creed III” is the spin-off from the “Rocky” film franchise series starring Sylvester Stalone. The new movie trailer reveals Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), has stepped away from the ring and has focused more on his wife Bianca Creed (Tessa Thompson), and his daughter Amara Creed (Mila Davis Kent). When Damien Anderson (Johnathan Majors), an old childhood boxing friend from Adonis’s past shows up to claim what he once desired, since his absence. The film's theme is “You can’t run from your past.” Three main actors from the film including Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Majors, and Mila Davis Kent were in attendance to answer the eager student's questions. Being that this is Jordan’s feature directorial debut, he was asked what legacy he plans on leaving behind as a director. “If I wasn't going to direct again, I wanted to have no regrets so I didn't. I didn't hold back. Legacy is something I think about a lot. The next generation is something I think about a lot. You guys are how I make the decisions that I do. I want to do things that are going to expand farther than when I'm not here. That's a big thing for me.” said Jordan. Mila Davis Kent, the 10-year-old actress who made her acting debut in the film, shared her input about inclusivity for the deaf community. “Black deaf people can see this movie and realize that there's a representation and that they can do anything just like everyone else! That goes for those who are hard of hearing too,” Kent enthusiastically signed. She continued, “Even though there are differences between the hearing and deaf Communities, I think this film shows that anybody can do what they put their mind to! So inclusivity means that we are really a part of it and we want deaf people to look at this film and feel inspired and feel proud to be part of the deaf Community. You guys can do it!” Later in the evening, Students were granted access to the screening of the film earlier before the initial release date at the Regal Atlantic Station. Complementary popcorn and drinks were provided also provided for all attendees. Upon entry, all viewers were given the option to view the movie with open captioning or without it. Due to the film's representation of those who are hard of hearing or deaf, open captioning is provided for everyone to get the same movie theatre experience. Before the screening, the main full cast of “Creed III,” made an appearance before the audience inside the theater before the film started. Each of them spoke about the message of the movie and how proud they are to be a part of it. “I'm just proud of you Mike, you know, you've been ‘Michael B acting’ and now your ‘Michael B directing’ and we love being here for you,” said Tessa Thompson proudly. After the film was complete, students were given t-shirts with the “Creed III” logo printed on them to remember the day they had.
