Langston University hosts grand opening of new Allied Health Facility in Tulsa

Posted By: S. Moore on March 30, 2023 TULSA, Okla. —Langston University hosted the grand opening of the new Allies Health Facility at its Tulsa campus on Wednesday. The state-of-the-art health facility will house educational programs that will support Tulsa's healthcare workforce shortage. President of Langston University, Dr. Kent Smith Jr., explained the importance of the nursing program and its new facility. "In 2015, when we proposed this initiative to build an Allied Health Facility. Obviously, we had no idea that a pandemic would hit some 4 to 5 years later," said Smith. "So it's very, very critical." Smith addressed the current nursing shortage and how the facility can help the shortage in Tulsa and nationwide. "We like to believe we represent the best of the best in terms of producing quality nurses, not only who will be great at the nursing component, but also in bedside manners and working with the general public and looking at health disparities," said Smith. The facility will be named after former Councilor and Langston alumnus, Jack Henderson. "I'm happy for Langston University, and the fact that they're gonna be able to do more in Tulsa at the Langston campus in Langston, the Langston campus in Tulsa is going to be greater than ever. I just am happy. What can I say?" The 16.25 million dollar facility was built with an allocation through the Vision Tulsa Public Infrastructure Project.
