HBCU Students Gain Music Industry Opportunities with the Your Future Is Now Scholarship Program
Posted By: S. Moore on April 04, 2023

The Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective (BMC) and Amazon Music have joined forces to launch their third annual “Your Future Is Now” scholarship program. Designed to provide students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with a chance to pursue careers in the music industry, this program offers a unique and empowering opportunity. By targeting aspiring musicians and professionals from diverse backgrounds, the initiative aims to strengthen the music industry’s talent pool and ensure a bright future for all involved.

Fostering Talent and Opportunity through Scholarships and Grants

The scholarship program will select five deserving winners to receive $10,000 scholarships each, providing much-needed financial assistance for their education. Additionally, two HBCUs will be awarded $10,000 grants each to purchase equipment for their music programs, enhancing the learning experience for current and future students. Applications are open through April 28th, with the winners announced on May 8th. To apply, visit the official scholarship website and take advantage of this life-changing opportunity.

A Commitment to Diversity, Mentorship, and Leveling the Playing Field

BMC Chair and Academy Board of Trustees Vice Chair Rico Love expressed his excitement for the program, stating, “We are committed to leveling the playing field for the next generation of Black musicians and professionals by providing them with invaluable mentorship opportunities and experiences to prepare them for careers in the music industry.” This commitment is further supported by the dedicated DEI team of Zing Shaw, Ryan Butler, and Ricky Lyon, who work tirelessly to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in the music world.

Building Lasting Connections and Strengthening HBCU Networks

Amazon Music Head of Music Industry and Culture Collaborations Phylicia Fant, a Spelman College alumna, emphasized the importance of HBCU networks in fostering lasting professional relationships. “Projects like the ‘Your Future Is Now’ scholarship are vital to extending these connections to the next generation of HBCU students,” she said. Amazon Music is proud to contribute to diversity and meaningful inclusion in the music industry by partnering with the Black Music Collective to create pathways for future leaders and innovators.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity for HBCU students to pursue their dreams in the music industry with the Your Future Is Now Scholarship Program. Apply now and take the first step towards a successful career, surrounded by a supportive network of like-minded individuals and professionals who are passionate about music and its transformative power.
