Howard Alumnus A.J. Ross Talks About Reporting on the Men's Final Four
|
Posted By: S. Moore on April 04, 2023 HOUSTON — Over the weekend, A.J. Ross drew in millions of viewers as the CBS Sports journalist providing comprehensive coverage of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, Reese's College All-Star, and HBCU All-Star games. Ross is a Howard University Broadcast Journalism graduate. The same program has produced highly-respected journalists and reporters like Jim Trotter, Steve Wyche, and Stav Verrett. HBCU Legends wanted to know her final thoughts after reporting on the 2023 NCAA Men's Final Four event. "My overall Final Four experience has been so thrilling, and it's amazing," Ross said. "I covered three of the last final four teams in various ways. I covered the Mountain West tournament with San Diego State. I had them years ago, and in 2020 when they really could have gone deep as well in the tournament. Had there been one. I had UConn and Miami, and Albany to start this tournament. So I feel like I've journeyed with these teams. I've been jokingly saying I'm a day one. So it's been an amazing journey. It's just really rewarding to see UConn win for many different reasons, I'm very happy for Coach Hurley making a name for himself in his own right, coming from basketball greatness — also, just the individual stories. I know what these players and what they have overcome and persevered through. So very happy for this entire program." The two-time Emmy award winner has worked for CBS Sports since February 2018. Her experience ranges from production to reporting local to national stories as a news anchor and field reporter. While with CBS, she has covered the NFL, college basketball, football coaches, and players during live game broadcasts.
