BEST HBCU HOMECOMING

For many students, alumni, and members of the community, homecoming is the highlight of the year. It’s a time for football games, parades, step shows, concerts, and reconnecting with old friends. But which HBCU has the best homecoming? Here are a few contenders. Howard University – Washington, D.C. The homecoming at Howard University is so big it’s been nicknamed “The Yardfest.” The Yardfest takes place on the main yard of the campus and features performances from big-name hip-hop artists, including recent performers like Lil Baby, DaBaby, and Megan Thee Stallion. It’s a trap music lover’s dream. The event officially starts on Friday for students and alumni with a welcome party but the actual homecoming parade takes place on Saturday. Florida A&M – Tallahassee, FL Florida A&M’s homecoming is known for its legendary parties called “set parties,” which are held off-campus with DJs, live music, and endless amounts of food and drinks. The homecoming parade is one of the largest in the south, with marching bands from high schools and colleges across the region. Lastly, the football game against rival Bethune-Cookman is one of the most exciting games of the year. Spelman College/Morehouse College – Atlanta, GA Spelman College and Morehouse College are both located in the heart of Atlanta, so it’s no surprise that their homecoming is one of the biggest parties in the city. The two schools share a homecoming celebration with a parade, a Greek step show, and an alumni tailgate party. The highlight is the Battle of the Bands, where the marching bands from each school face off in a musical competition. North Carolina A&T State University – Greensboro, NC “Aggie Pride” is a real thing, and there’s no better time to feel it than during homecoming at North Carolina A&T State University. The homecoming parade is one of the largest in the state, and the tailgate party is legendary. The highlight of the weekend is the step show, where fraternities and sororities compete for bragging rights. In conclusion, all HBCU homecomings have something unique that sets them apart, but the ones above are a few of the best. They each have their traditions that keep alumni coming back year after year. But one thing is for sure, no matter which HBCU you attend, homecoming is always a time to celebrate history, culture, and pride.
