US Sports Camps Launches Nike Soccer Camp with Next Star at Howard University

US Sports Camps Launches Nike Soccer Camp with Next Star at Howard University
Posted By: S. Moore on April 13, 2023

New Nike Soccer Camp in the Washington, DC area delivers a fun and engaging soccer experience for players looking to gain skills and improve performance.

US Sports Camps, the official provider of Nike Sports Camps, is excited to announce its new Nike Soccer Camp with Next Star at Howard University. Howard University is one of the most celebrated Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the first HBCU partnership for US Sports Camps. The week-long camp, offered throughout June and July, combines traditional and modern soccer coaching techniques for a skill-building, friendship-making, and fun-filled camp experience.

Co-founded by coaches Phillip Gyau and Paul Torres, Next Star is a highly-regarded soccer program that empowers players to elevate their soccer skills, learn from former national and professional league players, and cultivate a deep appreciation for the sport.

With a passion for nurturing young soccer talent, Coach Gyau brings over 20 years of expertise. Gyau has placed almost two dozen soccer players in Youth National Teams, gaining a wide-spread reputation as a soccer coach with a deep commitment to driving success. His daughter, Mia Gyau, plays professionally for San Diego Wave FC while his son, Joseph Gyau, plays as a winger for Allsvenskan club Degerfors IF.

“I’m excited to partner with Nike Soccer Camps and am confident our collaboration can help students get to another level of sportsmanship,” said Coach Philip Gyau. “Nike brings instant recognition.

We are truly blessed at Howard to have Nike representing our school, and we look forward to establishing a long and impactful relationship with its soccer camp.”

Having played for six years at the highest levels in Sweden and Norway, Coach Torres brings a distinguished career in soccer. In his youth, he secured three state and two regional championships and captained several teams to victory. He now uses his rich background to mentor other players and help them achieve their soccer goals.

“I am deeply committed to bringing athletes together and helping them discover their full potential,” said Coach Paul Torres. “And I look forward to working with Nike Soccer Camps to deliver an exceptional soccer camp program that takes kids’ skills to the next level.”

Nora Osei, Director of Growth and Partnerships in Kids Soccer, US Sports Camps, noted, “We are thrilled about this partnership with Howard University. Coach Gyau and Torres are well-known, top-tier coaches in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area, and internationally as well. At US Sports Camps, we value diversifying our partnerships, so adding an HBCU to our hand-picked team of partners aligns with our values and will hopefully open the door to more HBCU partnerships.”

Nike Soccer Camp with Next Star - Howard University is co-ed and open to soccer players ages 6-18. Registration is now available. Prospective players and parents can visit the website for more information. https://www.ussportscamps.com/soccer/nike/...
