Gun Lusting

Posted By: Jason Breckenridge on May 02, 2023 I recently composed an article for ThyBlackMan that was featured on MSN and I found the feedback I received from it to be intriguing. The subject matter at hand was gun control, specifically in relation to the Black community. You can access the article via the following link: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/opinion/gun... If you peruse the piece closely, you will find that I refrained from adopting a definitive position on gun control, aside from indicating that it was a farce, and that Americans were too deeply entrenched in fear to relinquish their weapons. I concede that people have a legitimate right to defend themselves or their loved ones, hence I never suggested that individuals should forego gun ownership. Rather, I emphasized that America has historically been too anxious to embrace gun control. However, one reader, a gentleman whom I believe to be of African descent, supplied a lengthy response that venerated firearms, extolling them as "man's natural inclination to survive". I must confess that his argument seemed uncivilized... What strikes me as remarkable in the evolution of humankind, within this racist society, is the conspicuous absence of a future devoid of war or strife. It seems that human beings can never transcend violence against one another. Even in our most imaginative depictions of the future, such as Star Trek, featuring intergalactic travel with advanced technology and yet despite existing in the vastness of space, we are still unable to coexist in peace. The article received over 700 dislikes, a fact which pleased me greatly as I do not wish to be aligned with dominant white thought. It is disheartening however, that so many Black individuals are ensnared by the web of fear that America fosters. I often ponder why Black people remain so confident in the progress of this society when so many indicators suggest otherwise. The siege on the Capitol, the revocation of Roe v. Wade, the ever-present threat of domestic terror or mass shootings due to the mental instability of delusional white males, and the collapse of multiple banks leads me to surmise that the end could be near. Did you know that the average lifespan of an empire is a mere 250 years? We are scheduled to cross that threshold in 2026. Considering the pure evil that this country was formed with: the genocide of the red man and the enslavement of the black man, what is it that inspires such confidence amongst us that things will continue rolling along smoothly? In the article, I presented a philosophical resolution for what the Black community could do within this context. Despite the gun-related fear-mongering, I advocated for a nonviolent response in the form of counter racism. While I do not expect white individuals to embrace this solution, it is somewhat disheartening that other Black individuals misinterpreted my message and are fixated on maintaining a future in which guns and war are requisite for safety. This mentality is puerile and primitive, running counter to our destiny as genuine civilizers. The ancient Greeks, who are often viewed as the first civilized group of (white) people, actually appropriated (or stole) much of their culture from Ancient Egypt (see Stolen Legacy by G.M James). After the Romans assumed power, there was a 500-year Dark Age for Europe (the rest of the world was fine) before another group of Africans, the Moors, rekindled civilization in Europe. You are familiar with European history, correct? That's twice where Africa civilized Europe. Europeans and/or European-Americans haven't been able to get along with nobody, including themselves, as shown in long movies like Braveheart and The Patriot. To quote the great historian, Dr. Ishakamusa Barashango, "Can you name one place that Europeans have went where death and destruction didn't come upon the indigenous people that were there?" No. Not one. Therefore, their barometer for how a society should function should in no ways be the standard as history awaits for the global white supremacist cancer to be removed from the planet.
