Delaware State University Commencement Speaker Change: Congresswoman Blunt-Rochester to give 2023 Address
|
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on May 11, 2023 Delaware State University has been notified by Jimmie Allen, the scheduled keynote speaker for its 8.a.m, May 12 Undergraduate Commencement, that he will be unable to participate in the ceremony. The University respects Mr. Allen’s decision and is grateful that Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester has agreed to address the graduates. Congresswoman Blunt Rochester is a leading voice in Congress on the economy and the founding Chairwoman of the Congressional Future of Work Caucus. She also is the first African American and the first woman ever to be elected statewide in Delaware, and no stranger to the Delaware State University family. Through her work in Congress, she has brought millions of dollars to the institution supporting a wide range of student-related research, minority-owned business incubation, mental and physical health initiatives, and many other important federal aid. In 2017, the University conferred an honorary degree to the Congresswoman for exceptional work in her field. The commencement will be held at Alumni Stadium on campus.
