Fayetteville State class of '23 grad aims to empower Broncos, HBCU students nationwide

Posted By: S. Moore on May 12, 2023 Saturday, hundreds of Fayetteville State University students will walk the stage to accept their hard-earned degrees. The historically Black university’s undergraduate commencement is at 9 a.m. in the Crown Coliseum, and the graduate commencement is at 10 a.m. at the Felton J. Capel arena on campus. Both are free to attend and open to the public. Livestream the ceremonies online at uncfsu.edu/commencement. While some graduates continue their education, kick off their careers, travel the world or just take a break, at least one Fayetteville State graduate plans to inspire a new class of Broncos. Issiah McLean, 23, is graduating with a degree in criminal justice. He founded Infinite Future Leader Consulting, a firm that aims to cultivate the next generation of student leaders through speaking engagements and workshops. Mclean will partner with the Fayetteville State Matriculation Institute to improve retention and graduation rates by providing academic-focused support programs, life skills, financial literacy and resiliency training. Through the four-year program, which accepts 120 students each year, McLean said he will teach students about resiliency, personal branding and personal empowerment. He’s not stopping there — McLean said he hopes to grow his business to work with other colleges, nonprofits and middle and high schools. “I want to be able to get contracted with every HBCU on the East Coast, from Florida to New York,” he said. More plans on the horizon for McLean Scaling the business is one of Mclean’s several post-graduate plans. The Elizabeth City native, who has been a member of the Army Reserves since 2019, begins a position in corporate risk management at Wells Fargo in Charlotte in July. He said he will travel to Fayetteville from Charlotte at least once a month. Long before he donned a cap and gown, McLean made waves. Last year, he was recognized as Mr. Fayetteville State University, a time-honored title bestowed upon students who compete to become student ambassadors of the school. As a student, he created the Fayetteville Leaders Initiative, which aims to “advance the liberation and well-being of Black and brown communities through consumer education, self-empowerment, career advancement and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of young leaders,” he told The Fayetteville Observer in September. Earlier this month, he published two manifestation journals designed to help young people follow their dreams — one for women and one for men — both available on Amazon. SOURCE Yahoo!
