HBCU Day: A Pathway to Success and Cultural Enrichment

HBCU Day: A Pathway to Success and Cultural Enrichment
Posted By: S. Moore on June 01, 2023

On June 2, Washtenaw Community College (WCC) will host its first-ever HBCU Day, an event expected to attract up to 400 high school and community college students from the region. This exciting event aims to introduce students to WCC’s HBCU Pathway, a comprehensive program that offers transfer agreements to five Historically Black Colleges & Universities.

The HBCU Pathway Advantage
The HBCU Pathway program provides students with a seamless transfer of WCC credits towards a bachelor’s degree. Additionally, the program guarantees admission into most partner schools, access to in-state tuition and scholarships at several partner institutions, and HBCU campus tours and peer activities.

Experience the HBCU Culture
The day will feature campus tours of WCC and its academic programs, as well as panel discussions with representatives from HBCU partner institutions, including Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, Jackson State University, Mississippi Valley State University, and Southern University – New Orleans. The event will also showcase the vibrant HBCU experience, featuring marching bands and a “Divine Nine Fraternity/Sorority Stroll Off,” complete with music and prize/scholarship contests.

Join the Festivities
Approximately 400 students from high schools within Washtenaw County are expected to attend the event, with transportation provided to the WCC campus. Recent high school graduates and students from other school districts are also welcome. Families and community members are invited to join the festivities from 1-2 p.m. The day is sponsored by a grant from Washtenaw County.
