Posted By: S. Moore on July 10, 2023 After embroiled tenures at his last two institutions, Central State University President Jack Thomas announced Monday afternoon that he would be stepping down. In an official statement, the university thanked him for his achievements and his services and clarified to the community that he would stay on the faculty as a tenured professor after a sabbatical rather than seek to renew his contract, which ends next month. ________________________________________________________________________ Academic excellence, dynamic partnerships, and a bold expansion mark Central State's new era!Upon his departure, we thank him for his service. Since joining the Central State University community in July 2020, Dr. Jack Thomas raised the University’s profile with a focus on growth and innovation. Thomas rallied the campus under a new strategic plan, Reach Higher. Go Further. Thrive!™ During his tenure, the University has developed several new programs and initiatives, including Project Innovation, a multi-million-dollar campus expansion; Central State Global, an online degree division; the Honors College; and,
Thomas will return to the University as a tenured professor after taking an educational sabbatical. _________________________________________________________________________ Thomas said he made that decision “having accomplished what I set out to do as president.” That includes boosting enrollment, launching a new strategic plan and a $75-million campus expansion to construct seven new buildings. "I want [to] thank the faculty, staff, students, alumni and the University Community for your support over the last three years," he said in a tweet announcing his departure." After much thought, prayer and consideration, I have decided not to seek renewal of my contract. May God bless and keep each of you."
