HBCU Grad, Black Pharmacist Celebrates Two Years as Owner of a Natural Hair Salon and Beauty Supply Store

HBCU Grad, Black Pharmacist Celebrates Two Years as Owner of a Natural Hair Salon and Beauty Supply Store
Posted By: S. Moore on July 19, 2023

Dr. Kristal Cunningham, a proud graduate of Florida A&M University with 17 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist, is also the owner of Bold Kulture Beauty, an Orlando, Florida-based Black-owned hair salon and beauty supply store that focuses on people with natural hair. In the near future, she'll be also transforming her store into a cosmetic pharmacy.

Bold Kulture Beauty is a revolutionary natural hair-focused beauty retailer and educator at the forefront of redefining how we see natural hair is making waves with its mission to empower their “kurlfriends” to embrace their authentic selves. Catering to the diverse and vibrant natural community, her store transforms the beauty industry by offering high-quality minority-owned products, services, and education that celebrates and embraces natural beauty in all its forms.
Dr. Kristal founded the company two years ago as a beacon of inclusivity, championing self-expression and individuality in a world that often dictates narrow beauty standards. Encouraging their “kurlfriends” to take up space & take their power back, the brand recognizes that beauty comes in various shapes, colors, and textures and aims to provide a platform where everyone feels celebrated and represented.

She comments, “At Bold Kulture Beauty, we firmly believe that beauty should not be confined to societal norms but a personal journey of self-love and self-discovery. Our myth-busting education, natural hair experts, and supportive community encourage our ‘kurlfriends’ to take their power back and confidently embrace their natural journey. From our curated selection of curated skincare solutions to our curl-poppin’ collection of natural hair care products, we offer an extensive line-up that caters to our clients’ specific needs for their unique skin and hair texture. We prioritize Black-owned brands, ensuring that our products meet the needs of those we serve.”

Dr. Kristal says that the natural hair and skin community has been eagerly awaiting a brand that understands its needs and aspirations and that her company has answered that call. Her commitment to representation and empowerment has sparked a movement of self-love and acceptance among individuals who have long been underrepresented in the beauty industry.

Her business can be supported online at BoldKulture.com or at her physical location at 9401 W. Colonial Dr #636, Ocoee, FL 34787 (located in West Oaks Mall).
