HBCU Scholarship Named in Honor of Late Atlanta Anchor Jovita Moore

Posted By: S. Moore on August 10, 2023 Former WSB-TV news anchor Jovita Moore passed away from cancer in October 2021. While the news shocked the Atlanta community, her legacy will live on in many ways — including through a new college scholarship. The Jovita Moore HBCU Undergraduate Scholarship was created by the Jaguar Foundation of Atlanta, reported WSB-TV. Aliyah Beal, was the first recipient of the new scholarship. She was recognized at the Jaguar Foundation of Atlanta’s 14th annual Atlanta Achievement Awards on Sunday night. The event had been hosted by Jovita Moore for more than a decade before her passing. “I’m just really honored to be the first recipient of this scholarship, just seeing her involvement in the ... it really just impacted me,” Beal said. The Jaguar Foundation of Atlanta plans to “mentor, inspire and financially support” students in the Atlanta area with the scholarships to attend “Southern University A&M College, and other selected accredited HBCU institutions (Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse and Spelman Colleges).” According to WSB-TV, Beal is planning to attend Southern University.
