Grambling State University Welcomes First Cohort of Ph.D. Students in Criminology and Justice Administration
Posted By: S. Moore on August 16, 2023

Grambling State University (GSU) welcomed its first cohort of students into the new Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Administration program on Monday, August 14. The nine students, who come from a variety of backgrounds, are excited to be part of this groundbreaking program.

"This is a historic moment for GSU," stated the University in a recent Facebook post. In June of 2021, the Board of Regents approved GSU’s request to offer the Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Administration; the first Ph.D. program offered at the institution and the first program of its kind in the state of Louisiana. The Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Administration focuses on the systematic study of crime as a socio-pathological phenomenon, the behavior of criminals, and the social institutions evolved to respond to crime.

The program includes instruction in the theory of crime, psychological and social bases of criminal behavior, social value systems and the theory of punishment, criminal law and criminal justice systems, penology, rehabilitation and recidivism, studies of specific types of crime, social attitudes and policy, and applications to specific issues in law enforcement administration and policy.

The Ph.D. program in Criminology and Justice Administration at GSU is designed to prepare students for leadership positions in the criminal justice field.

This program will give the students the skills and knowledge they need to make a real difference in the world. They will be able to conduct research, develop policies, and implement programs that will help to make our communities safer.

The students in the inaugural cohort are excited to be part of this new program. They are looking forward to learning from the experienced faculty at GSU and making a difference in the world.

Congratulations to the inaugural cohort of students!
