FAMU Engineering Alumni Launch Foundation with Unveiling of S.T.E.A.M. Inspired Mural

FAMU Engineering Alumni Launch Foundation with Unveiling of S.T.E.A.M. Inspired Mural
Posted By: Golden Age Innovations on September 18, 2023

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. September 18, 2023. The DuBlasé Foundation launched its non-profit organization with the unveiling of S.T.E.A.M. inspired mural at Brooklyn Park Saturday September 16th in Jacksonville, Florida. The DuBlasé Foundation is a 501c(3) non-profit organization focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math advocacy. The DuBlasé Foundation provides resources and academic enrichment to minority students in underserved communities.

The basketball court mural by Mary Joan Hinson, and imagery by Marcus Brooks were designed to embody artistic expression via geometric shapes to create the notion of movement and emphasize S.T.E.A.M. as an area of interest as the community uses this space for years to come.

City Councilmen Jimmy Peluso of District 7 and community leaders Sondra Fetner of the Jesse Dupont Fund, Kady Yellow of Downtown Vision and Laura Phillips Edgecombe of Build Up Downtown joined representatives from the DuBlasé Foundation as speakers during the unveiling to reflect on the importance of parks, recreation, community engagement and place making in Jacksonville, FL.

“Darrell and I are natives of Jacksonville, FL. We wanted to create a place where physical science and art merge for the community to enjoy.

Athletics provide the opportunity to learn incredibly valuable life lessons, and as S.T.E.A.M. advocates, what better way to introduce fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math to youth in the community” said DuBlasé Foundation President Darrin Eakins. “One thing we love about this project is it allows the community to come together in a shared space for a common bond. All the while subconsciously surrounded by science, technology, engineering, arts and math" said Darrell Eakins Jr., DuBlasé Foundation Vice President.

The mission of the foundation is to ensure minority students have access to the inspiration, encouragement, and support needed to pursue their education, as well as access to recommended resources. The organization looks to continue building an empowered community dedicated to helping future leaders achieve their dreams.
