Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 18, 2023 Delaware State University will hold a ceremony to rename its Johnston Hall in DSU Downtown after Hattie Dabney Mishoe, the late former First Lady of then-Delaware State College. The building – which is home to the DSU Nursing Program – will be renamed the “Hattie Dabney Mishoe Nursing Hall” in a ceremony at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 outside the edifice at its 300 S. New Street location. Joining DSU President Tony Allen and other DSU officials for the ceremony will be Gov. John Carney and Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long, as well as other state legislators. Also in attendance will be the late Mrs. Mishoe’s daughters Dr. Wilma Mishoe, DSU President from 2018-2019, and the Rev. Rita Mishoe Paige, as well as other family members. Mrs. Mishoe – the wife of 27-year DSC President Luna I. Mishoe – was a registered nurse by profession prior to the couple’s arrival at Delaware State College in 1960 and she helped the College to establish its Nursing Program, which was launched in 1975. In addition to her contributions to the Nursing Program, Mrs. Mishoe was a beloved First Lady for many generations of students at then-Delaware State College during her husband’s long tenure as President. Hattie Dabney Mishoe passed away at age 94 in Dover, Del., on March 17, 2009. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
