Rust College Athletic Director Named Gulf Coast Athletic Conference President
|
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 19, 2023 Rust College’s Athletic Director, Jarvis Stephen, has been named as the new GCAC President by the league office, adding to his already impressive title. In his new role, Stepen will preside over all Gulf Coast Athletic Conference meetings, appoint all Standing and Special Committees not specified in either the Constitution or By-laws, call special meetings of the Conference Executive Committee when two or more members have requested or at the President’s own discretion, provide physical arrangements for conference meetings when needed, and serve as the GCAC’s official representative on the NAIA National Administrative Council as well as casting the league’s vote at the NAIA Business Meeting. Despite his new responsibilities, Stephen will retain his role as the head of the department coinciding with his presidency. Stephen’s promotion is a testament to his leadership and dedication to the Rust College athletics program, which has grown tremendously since its acceptance into the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. When asked to provide a quote on his new position, Stephen provided an anecdote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stating, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” This is a significant achievement for Stephen and Rust College, and we congratulate him in his new role as GCAC President.
