Maker's Mark Celebrates HBCUs With New Private Select From HBCU Alumni

Maker's Mark is proud to announce two new Private Selection bottlings created by influential figures from the Morehouse and Spelman College alumni communities in celebration of historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). Maker’s Mark® Private Selection is a bespoke barrel program that allows the distillery’s customers and fans to create their own version of Maker’s Mark, customized according to their personal taste visions.

Developed by Spelman College alumna D'Angela Proctor, “Undaunted 1881” was created as an opportunity for Proctor to tell the story of the richness and power of HBCU culture through bourbon, while capturing the elegance and resilience of her alumni sisters in every sip.

Developed by Morehouse College alumni Harold H. Montgomery Jr., “1867 The House Standard” was created to commemorates the storied history of Morehouse since its founding in 1867, as well as the high standard of leadership that make up the pillars of Morehouse culture.

Both expressions will launch in limited quantities as Spelman and Morehouse alumni come together in Atlanta for alumni homecoming celebrations.

Maker’s Mark Private Selections ‘Undaunted 1881’ and ‘1867 The House Standard’ will be made available for purchase in very limited quantities at My Friends Bottle Shop in Atlanta, Georgia.

UNDAUNTED 1881 TASTING NOTES:
Proctor created her expression to be smooth and approachable for the bourbon novice, yet layered enough to satisfy the seasoned bourbon drinker. Expect flavors of vanilla and caramel, tinged with warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.

Proof: Cask Strength (108.5)

1867 THE HOUSE STANDARD TASTING NOTES:
Montgomery pursued a bourbon expression that would complement the flavors of his favorite cigar, as well as stand up well in a classic Old Fashioned cocktail. Proof: Cask Strength (108.6)

MORE ABOUT D’ANGELA PROCTOR: D'Angela Proctor is a self-proclaimed plate spinner, managing multiple ventures, including her production company, consulting firm, and new tech startup, with ease. Proctor is the Founder and CEO of Undaunted Content.

MORE ABOUT HAROLD H. MONTGOMERY: Harold H Montgomery is the owner of Harmont Enterprise, LLC. He has over ten years of experience in project and talent management and leadership positions, following success as a restaurant franchise owner.

MORE ABOUT MAKER’S MARK AND MAKER’S MARK PRIVATE SELECTION:
In 1953, in Loretto, Ky., Bill Samuels, Sr., fulfilled his dream to create a handmade and delicious bourbon. He decided to make his whisky in small batches, using soft red winter wheat to enhance the softness and sweetness. He then rotated each barrel by hand for consistency and, finally, aged each barrel to taste. Bill Samuels, Sr., transformed bourbon from a "commodity" into a premium handmade spirit, and today Maker's Mark continues to make its bourbon the same way.

In recent years, Maker's Mark has introduced thoughtful, super-premium innovations to its portfolio, including Maker's Mark Private Selection, the brand's first-ever custom barrel program. The program allows retail partners and individuals to “make their own Maker’s®” by finishing fully matured, cask strength Maker’s Mark Bourbon with a custom selection of ten proprietary oak staves. With 1,001 possible stave combinations, each expression of Private Select has a customized finish and taste profile that is unique, yet undeniably Maker's Mark.
