Posted By: S. Moore on October 26, 2023 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WSFA) - Tens of thousands of fans are expected in Birmingham for the Magic City Classic matchup between Alabama State University and Alabama A&M. Among the crowd will be one Alabama State alumnus who has attended almost every game over the last five decades. Oris Jackson isn’t just any fan. You could call her an ASU fanatic. “If it had not been for the almighty God, my family and Alabama State University, I would not be where I am today,” said Jackson. The retired educator graduated from Alabama State in 1970. She attended her first Magic City Classic in 1967. “I went 67, 68, 69, and we won those three games. My senior year, 1970, we lost. And since then I think I have missed only three Magic City Classic games,” said Jackson. She’ll sit in the stands again this weekend at Legion Field. In fact, she purchased nearly 60 tickets on the 50 yard line for her entire family. “I have them coming in from all over the United States because we love and support Alabama State University,” she said.. But they don’t all bleed black and gold. Her son graduated from Alabama A&M. Jackson said he’s a “Hornet by birth” but went to Alabama A&M because he wanted to major in engineering, which ASU did not offer at the time. “We’re a house divided. But he knows the Hornet rules,” Jackson joked. She said she hopes her Hornets rule this weekend, predicting a 38-16 victory. Not only will she have family in the stands, but she also has family on the field. Jackson’s nephew plays for the Hornets.
