Morehouse College Parts with Coach Gerard Wilcher, Who Claims He Was Fired Without Resources.

Posted By: S. Moore on November 07, 2023 Morehouse College parts with coach Gerard Wilcher, who says he had "no recruiting budget" and was fired rather than given resources to win. The HBCU program needs a new head coach moving forward. Morehouse College and alum Gerard Wilcher parted ways Monday, just days after the HBCU program wrapped up a 1-9 2023 season. A former Football Bowls Subdivision assistant coach with decades of experience, Wilcher lasted less than one year at the school from which he graduated in 1992. Though Morehouse claimed only one win in its season under Wilcher, that contest came in the program's finale -- a 35-21 triumph Saturday against rival Clark Atlanta. Wilcher posted a poignant letter on his social media account that outlined his efforts and exit from Morehouse. Perhaps most significant in Wilcher's letter? "I was hired after the recruiting season and had no recruiting budget," Wilcher wrote. "However, the College has made the decision not to retain me rather than give us the support and resources we need in order to be successful."
The NCAA Division II Maroon Tigers are 6-24 in the program's last 30 games, dating to the onset of the 2021 season. SOURCE Football Scoop If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
