The Meaning of a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future
|
Posted By: Kazhmir Hall on November 20, 2023 On May 24th, 2021, I was faced with the most devastating time in my life. My brother passed away at the age of 26. I never imagined something so tragic, happening to my family. I am still trying to process the fact that my brother is no longer here with me on earth. As I look at my future, being sustainable, resilient, and equitable allows me to adjust and accelerate in life. Having a sustainable future for me looks like being supported and being able to be maintain my purpose here on earth. I consider sustainability as a constant experience where someone is being encouraged and assisted. Even during difficult times, you can be sustained. Having a community of reliable, and trustworthy people allows a sustainable future. I can continue with my education and strive for my dreams, because I have my family who comforts me and supports me through it all. If I have them and God, I am able to have a sustainable future. When I lost my brother, I just began my first semester in school a week prior. I didn’t want to use his death as an excuse to quit. Somehow, I was able to complete that semester with As, and Bs. I logged into classes and completed assignments during the pain and grieving. This was an example of my strength, and it showed me that I was able to withstand from such a difficult situation in my life. I have embraced this moment to push me through in my present time. It can also help me in the future because I learned that I have the ability to bounce back even when facing devastating moments. That’s what a resilient future look like to me. I consider a resilient future as being able to recover from trials and tribulations. Having the ability to overcome the barriers that comes your way takes resilience. Life comes with problems, however if you stay strong and irrepressible you will have a resilient future. Experiencing this life changing event has caused me to become more open minded. I became more sensible to others who may have experienced similar situations. I believe I’m now more honorable, and conscientious. This empowers me to have an equitable purpose. I consider an equitable future, a future where someone is fair and square. Sometimes we are exposed to things that makes us become more reasonable. Being a decent, rightful, and honest person qualifies you to have an equitable future. This topic was very relatable. I have been faced with all three of these traits during a difficult time in my life. As I continue to live my life, I pray to live a life that makes my brother proud. This allows me to be sustained, to have resilience, and to be equitable. I know that he would want this for me. I consider a sustainable, resilient, and equitable future one that takes dedication, power, and strength.
