Black Couple Creates National Diversity Golf Program for HBCUs
|
Posted By: S. Moore on December 07, 2023 Angel Rich-Jones and her husband, Karl Jones, are helping Black people golf! The couple has launched a non-profit partnership with Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) member and President of PGA REACH Middle-Atlantic, J.P. Lunn, to launch a signature program called 4tee Acres. It is purposed to provide students of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with access to quality golf clubs, clothes, and clinics. The program will help students travel for tournaments, support recruiting efforts, and build a pipeline to being a PGA professional. Rich-Jones and Jones are both HBCU alumni. She attended Hampton University, while he went to Howard University. The 4tee Acres program will promote financial literacy, STEM, and golf at HBCUs and state schools with the mission to improve diversity and increase the number of Black women in golf. The non-profit is also releasing a stylish golf apparel line. “Expanding opportunities for HBCU students without barriers opens doors for an infinite future of young Black golfers to accomplish new heights and for HBCU golf programs to increase authority as they grow beyond expectation,” Rich-Jones said. “4tee Acres is devoted to promoting equity in golf from students to professionals and we look forward to working together to expand diversity across the industry. J.P. Lunn added, “Through PGA REACH we will be able to positively impact the lives of youth, military, and diverse populations by enabling access to PGA Professionals, PGA Sections, and the game of golf.” 4tee Acres will also support veterans through PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) with mental health and well-being for players and members of their households. Golf is a social sport that can improve confidence and reduce stress.
