Rust College Announces Launch Of Interdiscipliary Film Studies Degree In Independant Filmmaking

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on January 12, 2024 On Friday, January 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., Rust College will announce its launch of a new academic program, an Interdisciplinary Filmmaking (film studies) degree. The college contracted Soarpreneur, a nonprofit company dedicated to the training of independent filmmakers, to develop a film studies program designed for independent filmmaking. This launch includes five months of on-campus programming designed to engage the campus, to recruit students, and to raise funds for the program. Rust College has a rich legacy in the arts: filmmaking will now be part of its bright future and make it unique among HBCUs. “In an era of creativity and mass media platforms, Rust College is proud to offer a unique opportunity for our students to develop their individuality, creativity, entrepreneurship, and intellect through a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film. Our cutting-edge, one-of-a-kind program of study is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the competitive world of film at the highest level of professionalism,” said Dean of Humanities and Choral Director, Dr Karl Twyner. Announcement of First Experimental Learning Project A major component of the filmmaking curriculum is experiential learning opportunities. The first of which will be the production of “Badge Unbroken” where students will have real world practicum experience on an actual film set.
