Pursue a Career Worth Every Minute at Milton Hershey School

Posted By: S. Moore on January 19, 2024 Milton Hershey School is one of the world’s best private schools, offering a top-tier education and positive home life to qualifying students in pre-K through 12th grade—with all costs covered. All careers at the school are designed to help our students thrive on campus and beyond. Learn more about MHS and its pivotal career of houseparenting. Milton Hershey School plays a special role in the lives of our students—far different from any other pre-K through 12th-grade school in the world. When chocolatier Milton S. Hershey and his wife, Catherine, founded our school in 1909, they did so with the intention of giving children with less more—more hands-on learning, more access to daily needs, and more opportunities to enrich their lives. More than a century later, the school has graduated over 12,000 students. Today, MHS is one of the world’s best private schools, where students from qualifying families looking for greater opportunities can explore their individual interests to the fullest—with all costs covered. MHS employs over 1,000 people dedicated to this mission, working together across various disciplines to nurture our students and prepare them to enter the world equipped to thrive as self-sufficient adults. A Diverse Team United by One Mission At MHS, we’re all here because we believe our students deserve the opportunity to reach for more. Our employees come from some incredibly diverse backgrounds to make that happen. From educators and coaches to professionals specializing in health care, IT, legal, communications, human resources, and more, our staff embodies a mission-driven mindset that serves as the empowering force behind everything we do. Become a Houseparent at MHS A cornerstone of the MHS student experience is our unique, on-campus home life, where a group of students of the same gender and age live in a student home guided and managed by houseparents. Houseparents are married couples who create a family-like environment in the student home, caring for their students before and after school and teaching life skills and values outside of the classroom. A houseparent’s role is to be there as each child grows up, be someone they can trust, and help them become the best versions of themselves. Houseparent couples receive a total compensation package worth approximately $150,000. This includes a private, rent-free apartment; meals while on duty; utilities; a comprehensive benefits package, and a combined pre-tax salary of $85,806. To learn more about the houseparent role, consider attending an upcoming webinar. MHS also hires individuals as Transitional Living Assistants (TLAs) to work with MHS students in their senior year of high school as they prepare for post-graduation success. Similar to a houseparent, TLAs guide and mentor students while helping prepare them for life after school. At Milton Hershey School, careers are worth every minute. It is as much a lifestyle as it is a job. Learn more about MHS careers at mhskids.org/careers. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
