HBCU Chapter Of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity

Posted By: Bloody Phoenix on February 04, 2024 In 1837 the first HBCU known as Cheyney university was founded. Eight years later the nation's 10th oldest Fraternity know Today as Alpha Sigma Phi was founded at Yale University as a secret society for the sophomore on campus. At the start of the Civil War the Fraternity was disbanded and almost forgotten due to lack of membership. In 1907 Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, was re-founded as a national Fraternity in 1950 Alpha Sigma Phi became the FIRST racially and religiously segregated Fraternity to desegregate and alow membership to african American, Jewish and Hispanic males. Since the year 1950 Alpha Sigma Phi as worked very hard to promote racial and religious diversity, racial unity and Multiculturalism/awareness through its membership ranks, Making us the most diverse out of all the traditional social fraternities. In the 1950s fraternities like Alpha Phi Omega and Kappa Kappa Psi have opened HBCU chapter along with a string of other Historically and traditionally white Greek letter fraternal organizations and honor societies. I firmly Believe that it is time for Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity to continue to break down the barriers and form HBCU Chapters in our brotherhood. alot of Historically Black Colleges and Universities throughout or beautiful countries are becoming more and more diverse with the enrollment of white american, Asian and hispanic/latino students. Not only do i believe that Alpha Sigma Phi would benifit from having HBCU chapters but the school's that host our chapter's would benifit as well. It will also give students who may not be interested in one of the original 5 Historically Black greek letter organizations an alternative option if they choose. This type of expansion will also draw more men from different races at Predominantly white institutions to Alpha Sigma Phi. A good number of chapters at these institutions have been founded by by Black men as well as hispanic men and continue to be heavily inhabited by these men (my chapter included). That is something that I as a black man love to see. Also belive in being the change we want to see by bettering the man through the creation and perpetuation of Brotherhood.
