Train Catches Fire at DC's "Eastern Market", causes evacuation

Posted By: Jordan Davis on February 15, 2024 Just after 1pm today, at DC’s “Eastern Market” located on 225 7th St in SE, an insulator on the train tracks caused a fire that caused suspended Metro service from stations spanning between Stadium Armory and Federal Center SW due to the smoke that filled each station in and around Eastern Market. This shutdown between those stations caused many passengers to catch buses and shuttles into the city to other stations unaffected by this fire and smoke, one of which being “Archives-Navy Memorial Penn Quarter” based at the major intersection of 7th and Pennsylvania Ave NW where I got the opportunity to speak to an on duty police officer and metro transit officer who told me that while no fatalities due to this incident, about 9 people are injured because of it. He believes the trains will open back up before rush hour tonight.
