Testing the Reliable 2024 Toyota 4Runner

Despite no major changes in the last 14 years, the Toyota has sold over 100,000 4Runners yearly, behind the segment-leading Jeep Wrangler. Its reputation relies on its long-term reliability and durability, best known for its 300,000-mile life cycle. Considering the long-lasting durability, ease of maintenance, towing capacity, and reasonable price of the 4Runner, the clique, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it,” has worked well year after year. However, it is reaching the end of its life cycle, and now’s the time for a significant upgrade. With the Ford Bronco hot on its tail and recently taking the number two spot, Toyota’s off-road SUV is expected to get a complete redesign for 2025, with a new platform, advanced technology, engines, and design. A next-generation suspension is also in the works to keep pace with other off-road competitors. I recently tested the 2024 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro model (Toyota Racing Development) designed for serious off-roaders. It has a more powerful drivetrain, upgraded shocks, exhausts, and specialized off-road sports features. It’s also equipped with Fox shock absorbers for extra off-road performance. Models/Price: The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is available in seven trim levels: The 4Runner SR5 RWD or 4WD ($40,455), TRD Sport ($43,315), SR5 Premium ($43,515), TRD Off-Road ($44,300), TRD Off-Road Premium ($46,880), Limited ($49,690), TRD Pro ($54,920). For details on each trim, visit www.Toyota.com Power: The 4Runner is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that generates 270 horsepower, 278 lb-ft of torque, and a five-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels or an available four-wheel- drive setup. Unlike its top competitors, the 4Runner offers a third row to seat up to seven passengers with plenty of interior space for large families. Despite its age, the 4Runner includes features like a power moonroof, automatic headlights, dual climate control, multi-terrain and Panoramic monitors, and a 15-speaker JBL stereo system. The 2024 4Runner TRD Pro has Toyota's latest driver-assistive features, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. These technologies enhance safety and contribute to a more refined driving experience on and off the pavement. Other TRD Pro features include an aggressive exterior style, roof rack, premium leather-trimmed seats with TRD stitching, intuitive navigation, premium audio, and smartphone integration.
