Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on March 14, 2024

Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) is inviting members of the Daytona Beach community to join the campus in commemorating women’s history month with a series of events slated to take place March 18-22.

"Women's History Month presents a cherished opportunity to honor the countless contributions of women and girls nationwide," said Dr. Crystal A. deGregory, Director of the Mary McLeod Bethune Center for the Study of Women and Girls. "As one of the select American colleges founded by a woman, Bethune-Cookman takes immense pride in our historic and ongoing dedication to preserving women's narratives and to making ‘her-story.’"

Dr. deGregory will host a fireside chat on “Love Lessons: A Discussion of Service as an Act of Love” in the university’s Center for Civic Engagement on Monday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. Members of the surrounding Daytona Beach community are invited to come share in the discussion as Dr. deGregory reflects on Dr.

Mary McLeod Bethune’s final charge for students to be in service to their campus and surrounding communities in this free public event co-presented by the Center for the Study of Women and Girls and the university’s Office of Student Affairs.

On Wednesday, March 20 at 11:15 a.m., Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, the 24th national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will open the 14th annual Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Women’s Conference with a keynote address at the Women’s History Month assembly in the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center, located at 698 W. International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach.

All events are free and open to the public.
