Pack Smart: 8 Essential Items for Your College Move

Pack Smart: 8 Essential Items for Your College Move
Posted By: Hannah Whittenly on March 19, 2024

Moving to college is an exciting time in every student's life, but it can also be overwhelming trying to decide what to pack. From clothes to school supplies to personal items, it's important to make sure you have everything you need for your new adventure. To help you out, we'll share some essential items that you should pack when moving to your dorm or apartment. Whether you're a high school senior or a returning student, these tips will help you pack smart and make the transition to college life a smooth one. Let's start!
Clothing Essentials When packing for college, it's important to bring a variety of clothing options. Include casual clothes for class, workout gear for the gym, dressier outfits for special events, and of course, plenty of comfy loungewear for relaxing in your dorm. Don't forget to pack essentials like underwear, socks, and pajamas as well. And don't forget to throw in your few favorite pieces, so you can reminisce on those memories once you're settled in your new place.
Bedding and Towels Most college dorms provide a mattress, but you'll need to bring your own bedding. Make sure to pack sheets, a comforter, pillows, and a mattress pad for added comfort. Don't forget to bring towels, hand towels, and washcloths for the bathroom. Consider packing a few extra sets of sheets and towels so you won't have to do laundry as often. Plus, you never know when a friend might need to borrow them. It's also beneficial to bring along a cozy blanket or throw, perfect for chilly evenings reading or binge-watching your favorite series.
School Supplies College classes require a variety of school supplies, so it's important to come prepared. Pack notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, sticky notes, and a planner to keep track of assignments and due dates. Don't forget a backpack or tote bag to carry your supplies to and from class.

You may also want to invest in a laptop or tablet for taking notes and completing assignments. Check with your school's requirements before making a purchase.
Personal Care Items It's important to bring all of your personal care items with you when you move to college.Pack toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, and deodorant. Don't forget any medications you may need, as well as a first aid kit for minor emergencies. Consider bringing a shower caddy to easily transport your toiletries to and from the bathroom. And don't forget to pack your favorite beauty and skincare products to help you look and feel your best.
Kitchen Essentials If you're living in an apartment or suite-style dorm, you may need to bring your own kitchen supplies. Pack essentials like dishes, utensils, pots and pans, and food storage containers. Don't forget basic cooking utensils like a spatula, whisk, and can opener. Consider packing some non-perishable food items for those late-night study sessions when the dining hall is closed. And don't forget to bring your favorite mug for those early morning coffee runs before class.
Moving to college is exciting, but it can also be stressful trying to decide what to pack. By following these tips and packing the essential items mentioned above, you can make your move to college a smooth and successful one. Remember to include clothing essentials, bedding and towels, school supplies, personal care items, and kitchen essentials in your packing list. And don't forget to bring along a few items for high school senior pictures, so you can look back on those memories with fondness! Good luck and enjoy this new chapter in your life!
