HBCU Connect Announces Media Sponsorship on Urban Horror Film Project by HBCU Alum

HBCU Connect Announces Media Sponsorship on Urban Horror Film Project by HBCU Alum
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on March 21, 2024

HBCU Connect announces it is an official media sponsor on, WICKED WEAVE, an urban horror film, written by Grambling State Alum, Lena W. Claybon. The film is an urban, revenge, horror about a young lady who is murdered by her ex-boyfriend and returns to inhabit the hair of another young woman leading her to enact revenge on her ex-boyfriend!

The film is a throwback to the B-movie, horror films of the past but with an urban contemporary twist. “I wanted to pay homage to the old, Hollywood chiller movies but without the campiness.” says Lena, who will also direct the film.

Lena, a 20+-year veteran in the entertainment industry, has written and produced over 200 hours of television working with companies such as Twentieth Television, Saban Entertainment, BET, Paramount Television and Brainbox Entertainment. Her series work has included USA Network’s CLAUDE’S CRIB, teen hit show MOESHA, TLC’s, THE REAL ESTATE PROS, nationally syndicated court shows, TEXAS JUSTICE and JUDGE KAREN’S COURT and just recently BET’s COLLEGE HILL: CELEBRITY EDITION. Her short film,`The Myth’, which she wrote, produced and directed, was chosen for Showtime’s Black Filmmakers Showcase in the early 2000’s and had repeat airings on the network. She’s also co-written two musical hit stage plays, CHEATERS starring singing sensation, Brian McKnight, and CASINO starring soulful songtress, Kelly Price.

Lena, a proud Alum of Grambling State University, is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. “I loved attending an HBCU. There’s nothing like the relationships you make there that stay with you the rest of your life. That’s why we are so excited about our partnership with HBCU Connect and we are asking for support from the whole HBCU community so we can do more projects like these and hire more HBCU grads.”, she says.

Lena and her team are currently running a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the production. Perks available to supporters range from digital downloads of the movie poster, digital copies of the script and, of course, copies of the film (once completed). Also available are “Producer” credits, cameo appearances in the film, and even, spending `a day on the set’ with the cast and crew! “Contributors will also receive updates from behind-the-scenes that include photos, bloopers, cast and crew hijinks and all the craziness that goes on during the production of a film.”, Lena says.

“We want it to be a fun experience for all involved and our supporters are just as much a part of the family as cast and crew.”
