Baton Rouge, LA, March 17, 2024 – The National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV) is excited to unveil the program for its highly anticipated 2024 conference, set to be a groundbreaking event dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and professional growth in veterinary medicine. Scheduled to take place at Hilton Riverside Hotel, New Orleans, LA, June 6-8, 2024, the conference, themed "Breaking Barriers to Veterinary Medicine: Working Together to Address Systemic Barriers to Access," promises to be an extraordinary event dedicated to empowering and inspiring the next generation of Black veterinary professionals. The NABV Conference is more than just a gathering; it is a movement toward creating a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable veterinary profession. With a focus on addressing pivotal topics in veterinary medicine, leadership, and diversity, this event will explore the latest advancements in diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA). Attendees can look forward to engaging presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities designed to foster professional growth and beyond. One of the conference's highlights will be the keynote address by Mr. Glenn Singleton, the visionary leader and founder of Courageous Conversations. Mr. Singleton's transformative work on racial equity has spanned over three decades, and his efforts in developing leaders to undertake this critical work are unparalleled, with over three decades dedicated to creating racial equity across the globe. As an author, thought leader, and strategist, Mr. Singleton has introduced powerful protocols and frameworks for sustained, deep dialogue on racial equity. His keynote address promises to inspire and challenge attendees to drive change within the veterinary profession. In addition to the engaging sessions, the conference will offer unique opportunities for attendees. Conference highlights include a unique educational experience at the Audubon Zoo on June 7, 2024, combined with educational lectures, will provide an unforgettable experience and direct engagement with the animal kingdom—the Critter Fixers Vet for a Day event, led by Drs. Terrence Ferguson and Vernard Hodges aim to introduce children to veterinary medicine through hands-on experiences, inspiring future veterinarians. The conference will culminate in the Scholarship Gala, which serves as both a celebration of collective efforts and a crucial fundraiser to support veterinary students in need. This event will not only provide an opportunity to network and connect but also contribute to a worthy cause. Scholarship Gala is on June 8, 2024 – from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm, at the Hilton Riverside Hotel in New Orleans, LA. This year's conference boasts an engaging lineup of sessions covering a wide range of topics, including emotional labor in veterinary medicine, the critical role of telehealth in pre-veterinary education, and challenges and opportunities in equine practice.
