WALGREENS PARTNERS WITH ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY BABY SHOWER IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Posted By: Catalina Deossa on April 16, 2024

The 71st regional conference hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was a meaningful event that focused on women's leadership and community service. Here's a brief summary:

The conference took place from April 3rd to April 7th, 2024, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. It brought together nearly 5,000 diverse women professionals from the Southeastern Region, including Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.

The conference organized a community service project in partnership with Healthy Start of Central Florida to address maternal health disparities. Attendees were asked to bring select baby items for donation, which were then presented to Healthy Start. This initiative aimed to support new and expecting mothers in the local community.

Several organizations benefited from the community baby shower, including Beta, Young Lives Orlando, Covenant House, Central Florida Diaper Bank, One Heart for Women and Children, Safe Harbor of Seminole County, and Safe Harbor of Central Florida.

Walgreens was the preferred retailer for the Community Baby Shower, offering attendees discounts and free delivery through their app. Additionally, Walgreens donated $1,000 to the Central Florida Diaper Bank.

Central Florida Diaper Bank held its inaugural baby shower during the conference, further emphasizing the focus on supporting families in need.

While Vitamin Angels' voucher program was not available in Florida at the time, grant applications and informational pamphlets were distributed to increase awareness of the program.

This event not only provided a platform for women's leadership development but also demonstrated a commitment to serving the community and addressing important social issues like maternal health disparities.
