HONDA'S COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY: EMPOWERING HBCU MUSICIANS WITH $500,000 BAND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This partnership aligns with Honda's preparations for the 2025 return of the Honda Battle of the Bands, a renowned showcase for HBCU marching bands. A total of 41 HBCU students will be selected to receive need-based scholarships of up to $10,000 for the 2024-2025 academic year, with $5,000 disbursed per semester. Dr. Harry L. Williams, President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, expressed gratitude for Honda's steadfast support, emphasizing the significance of scholarships for HBCU students engaged in band or music endeavors. Yvette Hunsicker, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusion & Diversity at American Honda, highlighted the importance of HBCU band programs to community culture and affirmed Honda's commitment to advancing educational pursuits for deserving students. Eligible applicants must be enrolled full-time undergraduates at an HBCU, participating in a university band program, and demonstrate financial need with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The application deadline is May 17, 2024. Honda's dedication to HBCUs spans 35 years, encompassing scholarships, programs, and initiatives aimed at nurturing future Black leaders. Through partnerships like the HBCU Partnership Challenge and collaborations with organizations such as the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and UNCF, Honda aims to create sustainable support systems for HBCU education programs and facility improvements.
