WHAT: Wednesday, May 1, Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) – an institution affiliated with the United Methodist faith – will host a sacred tradition that was started in the 1930s by the institution’s founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune.

The Service of Consecration is a special worship experience designed by Dr. Bethune to give graduating seniors the opportunity to recommit their lives to God and be consecrated for future service. Bishop Timothy J. Clarke from First Church of God “The City” in Columbus, Ohio, will deliver inspiring words and blessings over each graduate. Attendees will also hear from Dr. William Berry, acting president and university provost, who will then guide the short walk from Gertrude Hotchkiss Heyn Memorial Chapel to Dr. Bethune’s burial site for the ringing of the bells. The service is free and open to the public.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 1; 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Gertrude Hotchkiss Heyn Memorial Chapel; 640 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd., Daytona Beach, Fla. 32114
