Three Alabama State University students won first - third place on Saturday, April 27, at the fourth annual Black College-Con Gaming Summit and E-Sports Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. The coordinator of ASU's E-Gaming program, Bennie N. Cooks, Jr., shared that students from ASU's team competed with regional E-Sports teams from other HBCUs across the Southern region at the event, which was titled "The Rocket League and NBA 2K Tournament."

"We are proud to announce that three of our Alabama State University E-Sports team members won big in the league competition," said Cooks, who serves as ASU’s director of External Operations and Event Management.

ASU's student E-Sports game winners are as follows:
* First place winner, Elijah Jackson;
* Second-place winner, Fred Ross;
* Third-place winner: Jordan Zamora.

HISTORY OF ASU'S TEAM
In March, 2023, Alabama State University announced the grand opening of its Gaming and E-Sports Laboratory and Recreational Center, located on the first-floor of the John Garrick Hardy Student Center, just past the bookstore. The center has more than $90,000 in state-of-the-art gaming and recreational equipment, designed for the enjoyment of ASU students and used by the University’s E-Sports team members, who compete against other college teams from across the nation.

"Major support of our facility and its team comes from the Black Collegiate Gaming Association (BCGA), which specializes in E-Sports and gaming education, producing professional gaming summits and conferences - like the one just held in Atlanta," Cooks said. "This association and its competitions connect student talent with top companies for internship and career opportunities, and sourcing corporate partners for scholarship and mentorship opportunities."
