ACC BASKETBALL TEAMS TO HOST TWO HBCUS AS SEASON OPENER
Posted By: Catalina Deossa on July 10, 2024

Wake Forest University's men's basketball team will launch its upcoming season with a focus on diversity and regional rivalries, featuring matchups against two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The season opener on November 4 at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum will see Coppin State University visiting Winston-Salem, NC. This will be followed by a game against North Carolina A&T on November 7, continuing Wake Forest's tradition of engaging with local HBCU programs.

The series with North Carolina A&T holds significant regional and historical context. While Wake Forest has historically been the stronger team in basketball encounters, North Carolina A&T has also shown moments of competitive prowess.

These games are typically held at Wake Forest's esteemed Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, underscoring the event's importance within both university communities.

Wake Forest boasts a storied basketball history with numerous NBA alumni, solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in collegiate athletics. In contrast, North Carolina A&T has established itself as a distinguished HBCU program with multiple NCAA tournament appearances and a rich basketball tradition of its own.

This initiative not only underscores Wake Forest's commitment to diversity and inclusion in collegiate sports but also highlights their ongoing efforts to foster meaningful athletic exchanges with institutions from diverse backgrounds. By hosting Coppin State and North Carolina A&T early in the season, Wake Forest aims to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive basketball environment while honoring the competitive spirit and traditions of these esteemed HBCUs.
