COMMENTS ABOUT THE CELEBRATION BY PRESIDENT ROSS ASU's President shared the following remarks about ASU's birthday event, which celebrates the University's origin that took place on July 18, 1867, when nine freed men (former slaves) saved up $500 by sharecropping to create what today is known as The Alabama State University. “This is a special time to look back on our distinguished past and reflect upon the University’s continuing role as a leader in education and research and as a valuable asset to our community, our state, our nation and the world,” said Dr. Ross. President Ross noted that the University emphasizes its commitment to student success as one of the pillars of its mission. Since its founding, Alabama State University has produced thousands of graduates who continue to make an impact through their achievements. “ASU has been transforming lives for 157 years. As a matter of fact, we measure our success by the success of our students, who graduate from here and leave to make their mark on the world. Alabama State University is truly the place ‘Where History Is Made,’” Dr. Ross added. Help celebrate with us by participating in any or all of our birthday events!
