EMBRACING DIVERSITY: FAMILY LIFESTYLE BRAND LAUNCHED BY BLACK SISTERS AND HBCU GRADS
|
Posted By: Catalina Deossa on July 24, 2024 Cara Johnson-Graves and Jenae Johnson-Carr, sisters and founders of Epic Everyday, have launched a Black-owned lifestyle brand focused on inclusivity and empowerment for children of color. Their product line includes accessories, apparel, and home goods designed with fun and fashionable characters that celebrate diversity. The brand's mission, encapsulated in the slogan "Never Ordinary, Always EPIC!", aims to build confidence and self-love in children by providing representation through their products. Recognizing a significant gap in products that authentically represent African American children, Cara and Jenae leverage their backgrounds in STEM and education to create visually affirming items that combat colorism and promote positive self-reflection. Their products feature a diverse range of mocha-hued characters with various skin tones and hair textures, fostering a sense of visibility and value among young consumers. Despite their initial lack of retail experience, Cara and Jenae have garnered attention and support for their brand. They have appeared on platforms like The Kelly Clarkson Show and collaborated with notable entities such as Amazon and Beyoncé’s Black Parade Route. They are committed to community engagement, having donated over $150K to charitable causes and partnered with non-profits to uplift underserved communities. Epic Everyday represents more than just a business; it embodies a movement towards inclusivity and empowerment. As the brand continues to grow, Cara and Jenae aim to inspire a generation of confident and resilient youth while celebrating Black culture and entrepreneurship.
