Posted By: Catalina Deossa on July 26, 2024 Sloane Stephens, a distinguished professional tennis player who won the US Open in 2017 and achieved a top world ranking of #3, is also widely recognized for her dedication to philanthropy and community service. In 2013, at the age of 20, she founded the Sloane Stephens Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to creating opportunities for underserved children through education and sports. The foundation's mission is to provide safe environments where children can learn, exercise, and play, thereby leveling the playing field for over 10,000 young people nationwide who might otherwise lack these opportunities. In tribute to her late grandparents, who were instrumental in her life and staunch advocates for the power of education, Sloane established the $30,000 Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship. This scholarship aims to support students pursuing higher education, with a particular focus on those studying healthcare or attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Lemon Perfect, a leading brand in the enhanced water sector, shares Sloane’s vision for a healthier and more equitable world and is contributing to the scholarship’s third year. The Doc & Glo Scholarship will provide financial assistance to six deserving students. High school seniors and current undergraduate students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher are eligible to apply. The scholarship seeks to support individuals who demonstrate resilience and determination, reflecting the qualities embodied by Sloane’s grandparents. Applicants are invited to share personal stories that illustrate their experiences overcoming challenges, detailing how their resilience has shaped their character and influenced their aspirations in medicine or their commitment to attending an HBCU.
