LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE SET TO RECEIVE RECORD GIFT EXCEEDING $1 MILLION

LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE SET TO RECEIVE RECORD GIFT EXCEEDING $1 MILLION
Posted By: Catalina Deossa on July 31, 2024

Livingstone College, a historically Black college and university (HBCU) located in Salisbury, NC, has recently experienced a significant surge in financial support. Over the past seven months, the college has received seven separate donations, each valued at $1 million. On Friday, the college is set to announce a donation that will exceed the $1 million mark, marking the largest contribution in its history. The exact amount of this donation will be revealed by President Dr. Anthony Davis during the 52nd Quadrennial Session of the General Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church in Greensboro, NC.

This substantial gift is anticipated to be one of the largest outright donations ever made to a private HBCU in North Carolina. Dr. Davis highlighted the critical importance of this donation, stating that it will significantly advance the college's mission and enhance the student experience.

The funds will be allocated to accelerate ongoing campus renovations, including the ‘Miracle on Monroe Street: Livingstone College Reimagined’ initiative, which involves a series of infrastructure and capital projects aimed at modernizing and expanding the campus.

Phase One of this initiative is currently in progress and includes the construction of two new residence halls and a dining hall, scheduled to open in the fall of 2024. The newest donation will facilitate the renovation of two additional residence halls, which are more than 50 years old, further improving campus facilities. Dr. Davis, an alumnus of Livingstone College and the first graduate to serve as president in the past 50 years, has pledged to use these funds in accordance with promises made to students and their families regarding campus improvements.

The announcement of this major donation will occur at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center, starting at 10:00 am on Friday. This event underscores Livingstone College's increasing financial support and its ongoing efforts to enhance the educational environment for its students.
