A day in the life of an Emerging Sales Manager at Yelp
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on August 09, 2024 Meet Tyler, a Manager on Yelp's Emerging Sales team! Tyler’s #FiveStarCareer journey began in October 2022. Tyler's team in Emerging Sales is responsible for partnering and building relationships with regional Multi-Location businesses across all verticals, from restaurants to home services, to provide industry-leading advertising solutions. Why did you want to work at Yelp? I felt that Yelp was creating products that truly made a positive difference in the lives of users and businesses. This particular role in Emerging Accounts felt like a great place to land. In this role, I would be helping medium-sized businesses with big growth goals, and I knew that Yelp would make a dramatic impact on their segment. In addition, I had a friend who had gotten into sales at Yelp, so I decided to reach out to her to learn more about her role and the opportunity. From there, the rest is history! What does a typical day look like in your role? My week starts by connecting with my team to review open discussions with clients and our next steps in the sales process. We go over revenue goals and campaign performance, as well as brainstorm how we can help remove obstacles internally or externally for our clients. From there, my week is split between meetings with clients, 1:1 meetings with my team to strategize on accounts, and leadership meetings. Throw in a few special projects in between, and then I wrap up the week with admin tasks to make sure the next week starts out fresh. What is the most rewarding part of the work you do? There are two great things about my role. The first is seeing our clients win. When our clients use Yelp and lean into the platform, the results speak for themselves. It's been great to review the performance of campaigns that perform well and have the client validate that they see the impact. The other is seeing our team succeed. As a leader, there's nothing better than seeing the team work through changes and come out of the other side better than they started. Having a front row seat to their growth, development, and success is very rewarding. How do your leaders support your growth? My leaders have given both the time and effort to ensure that I started off on a good foot here at Yelp and found my own way. They've been a steady voice and calming presence in the midst of change, like the ups and downs that come with sales. Their guidance has helped me to develop in this role and encouraged me to perform to the best of my abilities. As a leader myself, I've learned countless things from my leaders that I pass down to my team to help build a resilient culture. Want to work with Tyler?
