Coppin State University President Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins to Interview Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on August 13, 2024

Coppin State University President Anthony L. Jenkins will sit down with Dr. Carla Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress, for an engaging conversation at the annual Association of African American Museums (AAAM) conference, on Wednesday, August 14. This year’s conference theme is “Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future” to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.

Dr. Carla Hayden, a trailblazer, broke barriers as the first African American and first woman to serve as the Librarian of Congress. In her role, she has been a powerful advocate for expanding access to knowledge and preserving the history and culture of African Americans. The upcoming conversation with President Jenkins will explore her remarkable journey, her pioneering contributions, and the ongoing relevance of the Civil Rights Act in today’s pursuit for equality and justice.

“Speaking with Dr. Hayden is not just an honor—it is an opportunity to sit with my friend, not only to reflect on our history but also explores the pivotal role of education and access to information in driving societal progress.

As we celebrate 60 years of the Civil Rights Act, this discussion is a timely reminder of the work that remains in achieving true equality,” said President Anthony L. Jenkins.

The AAAM conference is a vital gathering that unites leaders, scholars, and professionals passionate about preserving and promoting African American history and culture. This year's event will feature a series of panels, workshops, and discussions that reflect on the progress made since the passage of the Civil Rights Act and address the challenges that still lie ahead.

The exchange between President Jenkins and Dr. Hayden promises to be both inspiring and insightful, shining a light on the power of leadership, the importance of education, and the enduring need for cultural preservation.
