Wall Street Journal: North Carolina A&T State University Is No. 1 Public HBCU in America

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 09, 2024 New national rankings from the Wall Street Journal of America’s top 500 universities recognize North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University as the nation’s No. 1 public historically Black university. The Wall Street Journal/College Pulse rankings evaluate “how well each college sets graduates up for financial success … how much a school improves students’ chances of graduating and their future earnings,” WSJ says. “We don’t measure reputation, nor the college’s own finances.” The rankings include 14 HBCU campuses, eight of them public. Trailing N.C. A&T among public campuses are, in order: Florida A&M University, North Carolina Central University, Prairie View University, Tennessee State University, Savannah State University, Jackson State University and Alcorn State University. On the private side, Spelman led all campuses, followed by, in order, Tuskegee University, Howard University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University. A&T is among 13 North Carolina campuses included in the rankings, led by, in order, Davidson College, Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A&T and UNC-CH are among nine ranked UNC system campuses. About North Carolina A&T State University North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is the nation’s largest historically Black university, as well one of the top 25 “Most Innovative” universities in America (U.S. News & World Report, Best Colleges 2024). North Carolina A&T is a land-grant, doctoral research university and a constituent member of the University of North Carolina System. A&T is widely recognized for its leadership in producing graduates in engineering, agriculture and other STEM fields.
