Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 13, 2024 Established in 1896, the campus of Oakwood University sits on 1,186 acres of land complete with a lovely pond and hundreds of magnificent oak trees. Over the years, many have enjoyed the spaciousness and tranquility the campus has to offer. Among the most recent admirers is Al.com. In two of its online publications Oakwood was recognized among the 10 Most Beautiful College Campuses in Alabama and listed among Alabama’s 5 Most Beautiful HBCU Campuses. The recognition comes as a welcome community appreciation for the Office of Physical Plant, the faithful steward of Oakwood’s campus and its buildings. Whether a window needs repair, a floor needs mopping, or lawns need mowing, the Office of Physical Plant is there to address the concern—and perhaps, to add a touch of beauty. On August 22, 2024, Irvin Raphael, Director of Physical Plant, and his team were grateful to receive yet another distinct acknowledgement. For the 22nd consecutive year, the Huntsville Beautification Board honored Oakwood University “in recognition of outstanding efforts to make Huntsville a more beautiful city." The awards were given to Oakwood University overall, the Farmers Market and the Community Health Action Center. Reflecting on more than two decades of excellence, Raphael comments, “It’s an honor. We take pride in trying to keep our campus as pristine as possible. We look forward to continuing that as we move forward.” If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
