Posted By: Nea Simone on September 18, 2024 Summer of Violence follows the journey of Naomi, a high school senior who must navigate the trauma and chaos that ensue after a tragic shooting alters the course of her life. Set in the backdrop of Denver’s infamous “Summer of Violence” in 1993, the film intertwines personal loss with broader societal implications, shedding light on the lingering effects of trauma on individuals and communities. This emotionally charged narrative aims to spark conversation and reflection around the epidemic of gun violence in America, offering audiences an opportunity to confront the harsh realities that many experience daily. Through the eyes of a young woman, Micheaux masterfully paints a picture of resilience, healing, and the power of community.
